History - The organization was founded in 1985 as a leadership training program. Initially called the Leadership Development Forum and housed in the Human Relations Commission of the Prince George’s County Government, the program with a class of 24 participants.  Circa 1994, the organization’s name was officially changed to Leadership Prince George’s.  The program continued to operate in the Human Relations Office through June 2004; later that year, LPG moved to the Office of Community Relations as a program operated and partially funded by Prince George’s County.

In 2004, the LPG Graduates, the Office of the County Executive, and the Office of Community Relations undertook a collaborative effort to launch LPG as an organization independent, not-for-profit organization clear of direct operation and funding as a government entity.  In September 2004, LPG acquired corporate status, and, in July 2005 received 501(c)3 status with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.  In December 2005, Leadership Prince George’s, Inc., elected its first official Board of Directors.

Leadership Prince George’s, Inc. has graduated more than 725 participants.  Both individually and collectively, these graduates represent a dynamic cross section of both the public and private sectors.
